Landover world records: WMA site plays pick and choose

Congratulations to Leland McPhie, Robert Hewitt, Robert Howard, Bill Murray, Emil Pawlik, Sumi Onodera-Leonard, Nadine O’Connor and Athena 4×4 relayists Jane Brooker, Maryline Roux, Joan Hunter and Charmaine Roberts! Your world indoor records from Landover nationals are now posted on the WMA records pages! No “pending”! They’re all good. Tough titties to Val Barnwell. Your 0.05-second improvement in the M50 world indoor record for 60 meters isn’t listed.  The WMA site, “Last update: 20 May 2009,” thus digs an even deeper hole for itself.  And I haven’t even begun to touch on American indoor records from Landover not listed on the USATF records page. Sid Howard ran 2:33.36 at Landover (beating the listed 2:34:10 by James Sutton in 2002), and his time isn’t even noted as pending. Ironic coincidence: Val and Sid are New Yorkers — just like former New Yorker Sandy Pashkin, the WMA and USATF records rejecter.  What does Sandy have against Big Apple athletes? The insanity continues.

Could it be that the records from Landover are those for which all of the required elements were present and so they could be recognized and the others are, unfortunately, those that don’t have the FAT picture because of either hardware/software issues and/or operator error? The timing problems are now fairly well known. Perhaps what we need is a listing of which ones were OK because all the elements were present and a listing of those that won’t ever get recognized because of the timing problems — problems that had an impact on some events and not on others.

Yes, some further explanation is needed. I see that both Val Barnwell and Sid Howard had fully automatic times, and thus there must have been photos for their races. Even if someone lost the photos (or something else happened), they should still be listed as a world mark (for Val) and pending American marks (for Val and Sid).
More generally, I can’t help remark on the irony that so many records were accepted (and so quickly) from a meet with a cloud over it (the FAT crew at Landover was not up to standard) while so many other marks in recent years have never been accepted.
I am talking here about marks whose legitimacy has never been in doubt. For example, Aaron Thigpen ran 10.60 FAT at the Mt. SAC Relays in 2007 for an apparent M40 American record in the 100. That “record” has never been questioned doubt…where is it?
I could go on and on, but I don’t have the time. Kay Glynn, John Hinton, Frank Condon, Bill Collins, Aaron Thigpen, Alisa Harvey, Steve Robbins, Monica Joyce, Aeron Arlin Genet …………. ……..I have to go to work now, sorry.

Just checked (1 pm EDT, Sunday, June 7). Val Barnwell is still not listed as the new world recordholder in the M60 dash (7.13) and is not listed as having a pending American mark. Sid Howard is still not listed as pending in the M70 800. Can’t wait to hear what the official explanation is. Of course, this path has been plowed so thoroughly — everyone must be exhausted by now about the issue of records in masters. Will try to find out tonight what happened with Val and Sid.

Found out last night from a reliable source that the records of Val and Sid are “good to go” and will be posted on the usatf.org Web site. Don’t see them there yet, but I expect them soon.
