Local paper: Look for 600-meter hurdles at Kamloops meet
Well, it could be worse. The typo could refer to the 60-kilometer hurdles. Here’s what a preview of Kamloops said on a British Columbia news site: “Events include the 1,500- and 3,000-metre races, the 600-metre hurdles, the high jump, the long jump, the shot put, the indoor pentathlon, the 10-kilometre road-race walk, the hammer throw and the half-marathon.” We also learn: “The approximate cost of hosting the championships is $300,000, with the city expecting three to four times that amount to be reaped in revenue. The B.C. Lottery Corporation is the presenting sponsor and has donated $75,000 to the cause. . . . The city is expecting about 1,500 competitors from around the world, including more than 100 from Kamloops.” The meet starts Monday. Hard to believe.

Story says:
It will be the largest sporting event ever held at the facility, which opened in 2007, but at least one official with World Masters Athletics — the body sanctioning the event — already likes what he’s seen.
Alan Bell, the organization’s United Kingdom-based competition director, is impressed with the TCC.
“I’ve been to every WMA world championship since 1999 except one, so I’ve got a reasonable amount of experience,” he said.
“But I can say you’ve got one of the best complexes that has ever been offered to the WMA.”
