Eurovets seek technical director on eve of major championships

Nice joint for a track meet in Turkey. Whodathunk it?

What would happen if USATF saw its top technical official quit a month before masters nationals? Right, I have no idea either. But that’s the scenario across the sea, where the Eurovets are holding their 19th championships next month in the Turkish town of Izmir (Atatürk Stadium, to be specific.) A week ago, EVAA President Kurt Kaschke of Germany sent out a pleading email: “Last weekend EVAA Council had a SKYPE meeting about the resignation of EVAA Technical Director Nicola Maggio. He resigned on Monday 16th at the meeting in Torun. To make a decision – so shortly before our EVAA Stadia Championships in Izmir – I asked EVAA Council members for a proposal. We all agreed to nominate Jean Marcel Martin for “Acting Technical Director” until the General Assembly in Izmir.” BTW, deadline for entry is today (July 6), according to the EVAA site. See this report for more info on the biggest masters meet of the year.

Here’s Kurt’s letter to his member nations:

To whom it concerns

Dear EVAA Affiliates,

Last weekend EVAA Council had a SKYPE meeting about the resignation of EVAA Technical Director Nicola Maggio.

He resigned on Monday 16th at the meeting in Torun (EVACI City 2015).

To make a decision – so shortly before our EVAA Stadia Championships in Izmir – I asked EVAA Council members for a proposal.

We all agreed to nominate Jean Marcel Martin for “Acting Technical Director” until the General Assembly in Izmir.

We are aware that EVAA Council has to consist of five elected members of different countries.
In our constitution it is written that EVAA Council has to nominate a person as “acting” until the next General Assembly.

Jean Marcel Martin is the Technical Manager of Stadia and the one who was last in Izmir for the technical inspection.

He will take the position of “Acting Technical Director” until EVAA Affiliates have elected a new person for this office.

Therefore, from this moment on we need proposals from EVAA Affiliates for the nomination of the EVAA Technical Director.

Never before has a situation like that occurred. Consequently we have to have a new timetable for this nomination – the constitution does not mention anything about such a circumstance.

EVAA Council proposal:

Application procedures are open from this moment onwards, until July 9th. This way we can add the names to the GA Booklet, which has to be produced during the weekend after July 9th and send out to you via email 45 days before, and when printed, send directly to the affiliates.

For comments, please don’t hesitate to contact EVAA Council’s Acting Secretary Helena Maria Pieres de Carvalho.

Best regards and see you in Izmir

Kurt Kaschke
EVAA President

And here’s info from Eurovets site:

Sea season opened in Izmir. There are a lot of hotels in world famous towns of Izmir, namely Cesme and Alacati. Izmir’s restaurants and bars at the beach are also full. We believe that the participants of the Veteran Championships shall spend great time in Izmir if they wish. Moreover, there are historical places around to visit, such as Ephesus ruins and Mother Mary Church. We recommend the participants to visit these places.
