Liz Palmer beats Phil Raschker’s American record in 60 hurdles
Christel Donley reports from Colorado and the USATF Mid America Masters Indoor Championships at the Air Force Academy: “Liz Palmer, CA, flew into snow and ice, say Colorado Springs, and ran a 9.32 second 60-meter hurdles American record in the 50-54 age group. (Another highlight was) Bill Harvey (65-69 age group) from Nevada — the former Occidental College head coach had a shot put of 12.46 meters. He became the shot put world champion in Sacramento last year, since the initial winner was drug tested positive.” Liz today beat the listed AR of 9.38 by Phil Raschker way back in 1997, so this is a momentous mark. The listed WR is close: 9.26 by Switzerland’s Christine Müller. Great job, Liz! Go get Christine.

Congratulations, Liz, way to fly, kid. Smartty
Tremendous mark for Liz. Remember, also, that the electrifying Joy Upshaw ran 9.39 for the 60 hurdles last year at Albuquerque, which makes this 9.32 by Liz even more impressive.
Nice job Liz!!!
Way to go, Liz! That’s just an amazing time!
Also, congrats to Bill Harvey, whom I remember very well from his Oxy days.
Awesome job, Liz! Great way to start 2012.
Congratulations Liz! Keep it up!!!
Congrats to Liz!
Nice Liz, I agree with Scott # 5, great start to 2012. Keep up the good work.
Fabulous and inspiring! You’re on fire with those Colorado times! Congrats on your new AR!
I was there, she looked great!
Yes, Liz ran a wonderful race and you, Brenda,
hopefully are feeling better, somewhat stiff???
At least you came home with a shotput win…
Was great to see you and Jeannie Bowman coming out to our meet.
It was lousy cold, but the scenery was spectecular!
Great job, Liz! What will you do next?
Liz has a rocket start with some serious afterburners.

AWESOME job Liz! Congratulations!! You ROCK! 😉
Since I do not have Brenda Matthews e-mail.
Brenda, hope you are reading this.
After your “spill” I was hoping, you were ok.
Did not know that you still ran the 60 m, and a pretty good time!
Just proof reading the results and finding out, who was there…. At that meet, I am just too busy, and can hardly watch an event.
My/our reward: a lot of” Thank Yous” and athletes seemed to have had fun.
Happy Valentines Day – almost over.
Thank you Christel, Jerry, Jim, and George for putting on such a well-run meet. I appreciate all the nice comments posted here, and I am especially thankful for the support of my friends who helped me keep my focus whenever things got difficult. You know who you are–you’re the best.
WHAT?? 62 yr. old Brenda Matthews took a fall and then clocked a 9.07, 60 meters in the 60-64 group and also won the Women’s 60-64 shot put at 9.14m (30’00)… Way to recover Brenda!! Some other athletes that showed up to the meet and did OK aside from Liz’s fine performance in the 60m hurdles were, 66 yr. old William Harvey who took Gold in the Men’s 65-69 Shot put with a toss of 12.46m (40′ 10.25″) . Pole Vaulters Pat Manson (44) and Mark Pierson (50) were worth a look as Pat Vaulted 4.55m (14′ 11″) in the men’s 40-44 group and Mark cleared (14.10m (13’5.25″)in the men’s 50-54, both taking Gold. 74 yr. old Richard McKisson had a decent outing in the Men’s 70-74, 60m sprint with a time of 9.22, as did 51 yr. old James McCrimmon jumping 1.65m (5′ 5″) in the high jump. Congrats to you all of you for some nice efforts and best of luck in the upcoming outdoor season!!
I’ll second Milton’s comment. Liz had a couple of outstanding races but now results have posted you can see many other excellent performances. Thanks to Milton for highlighting some of the standouts. Congratulations to everyone! http://usatf-co.org/component/content/article/87-sport/114-master-athletes-track-a-field
