A senior moment at National Senior Games site
Some folks who run masters track in the United States also go over to the “dark side” — the circuit of meets under the umbrella of the National Senior Games Association. This year is a national championship year for the Senior Olympics folks, who generally thumb their nose at USATF niceties like professional officiating and record-keeping. An example of their slapdash approach to the sport is a current announcement on their Web site.
The site happily declares:
2005 Summer Games Registration Deadline Extended!
The deadline to register for the 2005 Summer National Senior Games – The Senior Olympics has been extended to February 28th, 2005. Forms must be received on or before this date. Roster changes may be made until March 1, 2005.
But scroll down the page, and you’ll see this embarrassing little aside:
Special Notice Regarding On-Line Registration
The National Senior Games Association and the Information Technology group working with the Association have discovered a coding error preventing the launch of our new on-line registration system. The staff is working diligently to fix the error, however, we are unsure whether the system will be repaired in time to meet the February 28th deadline
We stongly recommend you register using the registration form found in your Registration Handbook until further notice..
Oh well.
The track meet portion of the Pittsburgh National Senior Games is June 7-17, 2005. Four months from now, I’m sure y’all will be glad to have registered in advance. Especially those of you with injuries, illness and other life ouchies.
If you haven’t already qualified for the National Senior Games — one of the few masters events that require qualification — you’re probably out of luck. But here’s a page that tells you how you should have qualified.

I qualified for the National Games through the Texas State Games, so I thought I would give this ‘National’ meet a look. Then I received a notice in the US mail that the February deadline was approaching for this summer meet. Undaunted, I went to their web site.
There were so many broken links and the information was so fragmented, I bailed quickly.
Ridiculous registration deadlines, broken links….NEVER MIND!
Maybe they can pull it together in the future.
