Best damn shot-put video ever! M50 contest at Sacramento

With AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” pounding in the background, this video captures the drama and intensity of the M50 shot at Sacramento nationals two months ago. Well worth the wait! I was privileged to witness this titanic battle of spinners vs. gliders at Sac State, won by former 70-foot thrower Rob Suelflohn. God they were good!

I agree with you, Ken: For me it is the best shot put video I ever seen!
A long with the dramatic battle:
As a master I learn more from this great M-50-guys then from Barnes, Günthör, Timmermann, et.al.
They show to me, how it is possible to make (good) athletics with 50+.

I think Suelflohn and Ossmann will have many battles ahead good for the sport!!!
Hope Dennis Diaz competes next time too. Three 16 meter throwers!!

Awesom great for a bunch of old guys

  7. Bob Cedrone - September 20, 2010

I happened to be seated about 30 feet away from the Shot Put circle during this incredible competition, and I have to say I enjoyed it as much as any Masters event I have ever witnessed!

In terms of overall quality of marks for places 1 through 6, the only USATF Masters Nationals throws event I can come up with in recent memory that rivals it would be the 1998 USATF Masters Nationals
M50 Discus Throw from Orono, Maine.

    1. Thomas Fahey M50 55.39
    2. Ladislav Pataki M52 52.42
    3. Terry Schuman M52 48.60
    4. Lee Englund M53 47.90
    5. Bruce Hedenal M50 47.67
    6. Jerry Bookin-Weiner M52 46.58
    7. Robert Mead M54 45.78
    8. Tim Edwards M50 45.00
    9. Kenneth Straley M53 41.81
    (does not advance to finals!)

That was alot of fun to watch…especially since I don’t get to see you guys compete at the meets! Thanks for the video! And CONGRATS to all competitors.

great video and an even greater competition…! no low “t” there…

This year’s discus wasn’t too bad either:
    1 Scott, Carlos M50 57.91m
    2 Riewerts, Ed M51 52.63m
    3 Bailey, Donald M51 49.09m
    4 John, Daniel M52 47.17m
    5 Wilson, Randy M52 43.72m

As mentioned in the SP, too bad Dennis Diaz wasn’t at the meet.

Back to the SP, 4th thru 6th probably put this competition well above others in recent times:
    4 Riewerts, Ed M51 14.60m
    5 Arello, Robert M51 14.35m
    6 Wilson, Randy M52 14.15m

Great video!! How about all the career 15 meter plus throwers in that competition? Suelflohn, Ossmann, Bailey, Arello and Wilson!! Riewerts is close hope I didn’t slight him.
Going to be a great 2011 in 50-54 with Diaz thrown in the mix.
