Nate White dies at 87; ran middle distances as M80
W80 sprint champion Pat Peterson shares the sad news that her New York friend Nate White has died. He was 87. Nate was a well-regarded miler and ranked high as recently as 2002. Pat writes: "Nate passed away at his home in Fayetteville on Thursday, May 10, 2007. Son of Nathaniel A. White and Jesse (Engard) White, he was born in Wenonah, New Jersey, on June 28, 1919."

Fayetteville, NY 113066Nathaniel Eastman White, age 87, passed away at his home in Fayetteville on Thursday, May 10, 2007. Son of Nathaniel A. White and Jesse (Engard) White, he was born in Wenonah, New Jersey, on June 28, 1919.
Mr. White was predeceased by his first wife Anna (Paul) White in l961, his son David Anderson White in 2006, his brothers Robert and David White, and his sister Charlotte Gaunt. He is survived by Evelyn D. White his wife for 42 years, his son Nathaniel A. White II, Hamilton, VA, his daughter-in-law Leslie C. Sinn, his granddaughter Lauren Ann White, his daughter-in-law Margaret White (North York, Canada), and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. White graduated from Cornell University in l941; worked for Agway (in DeWitt) until his retirement in l982. A life member of the Cornell Council and he was president of the Cornell Club of CNY and a member of the Cornell Track Alumni Committee for several years. He led the Syracuse Chargers Track Club for 12 years as president and served on their Board of Directors for over 20 years. He competed in national and world running competitions as well as local competition until he was 80 years of age. He loved canoeing, hiking in the mountains and most especially running.
A memorial service will be held at Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home, 1791 East Genesee Street, Fayetteville at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 19. A private burial will be at the Wenonah Cemetery in New Jersey.
