Masters exhibitionists, your showcase meets are listed
Despite the troubles of last season, the Millrose Games again beckon to masters 4x4 relay teams in February 2008. Mark Cleary, the USATF Masters Invitational Program coordinator, has posted info on who can enter. Four other meets are on the masters agenda this year as well -- including the Olympic Trials in Eugene in June, where fast women will compete at 200 meters (the masters men's event hasn't been determined yet). This is the ninth year for these masters exhibitions at major open meets. Mostly, the events have been middle-distances and sprints. Once they had a men's 110 hurdles (featuring the handsome and witty Willie Gault).
Regarding the 101st Millrose Games masters relays, I received this note:
Mary (Rosado) sent an email 12/17/07 to say that she did not have all of the details regarding this year's race yet, but that people should start thinking of team rosters. So it looks as if the entries will be jumping through as many hoops as a circus seal. Best of luck to everyone involved.
Everyone..... "that is running should be not only a member of your USATF team but each member of relay in addition to club, must have renewed their 2008 USATF membership. Beginning this year, you will have to fill out a formal application and your application will not be considered if it does not HAVE the membership numbers of all the athletes as of the application deadline. In the past, you had until the day of meet to get the membership numbers. No more. This is in order to make sure that we have sufficient time to check club memberships and/or affiliations. Also if you are part of team roster, you cannot be the contact person for team."
Mary said that the application will be posted on masters website in few days. "Dateline is approximately January 15th."
"RULES: USATF member club with team members (no all-star teams). Application must be filled out completely with all USATF membership numbers for entire team -- no "pending." You need qualifying race time for 4x400m relay -- not individual times from 1/07-1/08."

Comments
They should drop the "field" from our name. Out of all those meets, there was not a single field event included in any of them.

If I am reading correctly the standard to permit entry for men 50-59 in the 60 meters at the Indoor Championships is 7.36.
I wonder if they looked at the rankings? Only one person qualifies, having run the minimum standard of 7.36 on the button. I'm not sure my friend Bill would want to go there and race himself. I guess they will have a finish camera to make sure he wins. Did I misinterpret this information?

A previous discussion about why field events and older age groups are not included in the USATF masters invitational program is here (see comments):
