Age-Graded Tables delayed by LDR dispute

Nearly four months ago, I posted my findings on why the new Age-Graded Tables had been delayed. At the time, the tables (aka Magic Decoder Ring of masters track) were supposedly weeks away from being sent to National Masters News for publication. But they still haven't been disseminated. Why? Let AGT honcho Rex Harvey explain.

Rex writes:

"The distance running community is delaying us as they argue if the female Chinese World Records are valid or not. That may result in a small change in the present 2002 tables from the 1000 meters and up."

Rex says the the tables will be ready in time for Hawaii masters nationals and WMA worlds -- and will be available for incorporation in the Hy-Tek meet software.

I also invited Rex to suggest any corrections or additions to my original post on the AGT delay.

So Rex wrote:

"Ken, you did not point out that the WMA 2002 Age Grading for all of the Combined Events was approved and has been published on the World-Masters-Athletics.org site since May of 2002. And that that is the only official WMA use of the tables, although you and I and everyone else knows that the tables are more important than that and that is why we have put in so many hundreds (thousands) of hours making then as "good" as possible.

"Be pre-warned that what was published on the WMA site contained a typo in the F60-64 80 meter hurdles (it should be .9500). And the female 1500 meters will probably change (it will get more lenient) due to recent decisions. The 1000 meter (which is very seldom contested), also will change since it is an interpolation between the 800 meter and the 1500 meter."

Now I guess it's up to the "distance running community" to resolve the situation and get the AGT project back on track.

I'll check it out.
