Breakfast of Geezerchamps? Ralph Maxwell shares mush recipe

M90 hurdler Ralph Maxwell, who shared USATF Male Masters Athlete of the Year honors for 2010, also likes to share recipes. He writes: “Folks nowadays seem obsessed with diet. Especially those who are interested in achieving or preserving vibrant health as they grow older. As a 91-year-old active competitor in track and field, I’m often asked some version of this question: ‘What kind of food does a skinny, wrinkled old geezer like you eat, anyhow?’ That question hits my babbler button, and I start gabbing away about Buzzy (my nickname since infancy) Maxwell’s Power Breakfast. It features that delicacy, MAXWELL MUSH, an original fortified oatmeal concoction. Here’s the recipe: (It’s not copyrighted. It’s so healthful it belongs in the public domain.)â€

Ralph Maxwell scares up some grub — and prized mash — wearing a fright wig.

Here is Ralph’s recipe for Maxwell Mush:

1 1/2 cups of water
1 fistful of oatmeal
1 fistful of All Bran
1/3 of a sliced banana
32 raisins — just joking — make that 1 heaping tablespoon
32 sundried goji berries (I just can’t help repeating a bad joke. Sorry. Actually, 1 heaping tablespoon)
1 heaping tablespoon ground chia seeds
Dash of cinnamon

Bring water to boil in a 1-quart cooking pot. Toss in all the above ingredients. Stir it up. When it starts to boil again, cover and turn heat down to simmer. In 5 minutes, it’s ready. Empty into a bowl, pour on milk and enjoy!

To round out the breakfast: Fresh fruit, a small glass of orange juice and one mug of coffee.
Important note: NO REFINED SUGAR.

I love the photo Ralph. At first glance, I thought it was a picture of my Ex-Wife but then I realized, her mustache was longer.

The breakfast recipe is fantastic and I am going to make a bowl and eat it after my workout today.
