Brits open Eurovets indoor championships with 3 world records

Landover indoor nationals start Friday and run through Sunday (including a live webcast), and organizers are giddy a record 1,043 are entered. Big whoop. Italian masters indoor nationals had 1,341 entrants, and the Eurovets indoor championships boast 3,200-plus (see the entrants). That meet began Tuesday in San Sebastian, Spain, and at least three world records have been set so far. The posted list says five WRs, but one by M75 high jumper Carl-Erik Sarndal is short of a mark earlier this season, and one is just plain wrong (involving Olga Kotelko). Here’s a video preview of Landover:

But as far as I can tell, these WRs are legit:

  • Britain’s Wendy Laing going 1.57 in the W50 high jump (beating the listed mark of 1.56 by Finland’s Auli Marttinen).
  • Britain’s Angela Copson crashing the 12-minute barrier in the W65 3000 with her 11:49.53 (beating listed WR of 12:03.78 USA’s Marie Michelsohn).
  • And Britain’s Laura Mahady clocking a W55 W800 WR of 2:30.55 in a heat (beating listed WR of 2:31.73 by USA’s Kathy Martin).
  • Nice job, gals.

Now, Yanks, show them how’s it done.

Best of luck to everyone in Landover! Here’s the meet program.

Unrelated but, any pictures or information about the “Fastest Man Over 40” race?

The European Veterans Indoor day-by-day online results presentation in itself was very good`at the time. But now it is over you cannot find what your buddy did for instance in the M70 400m without leafing through every day. The San Sebastian results are on http://www.rfea.es/competi/result2013/pistacubierta/San_Sebastian/index.html. It would be better with a Men/Women – Event results presentation. But then we have said that before.
