Debi Lurie’s letter to Santa: Be generous to masters coaches
W50 sprinter Debi Lurie, whose Senior Olympic quest was chronicled in essay form last July, has sent me something new. Just in time for Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, comes a bright little memo to Santa (who brings eight times as many gifts for Jewish children). âPlease include all masters track coaches on your âgoodâ list also,â Debi tells St. Nick. âWe appreciate all of their efforts. Please give my coach all that he hopes for. He worked so hard. I know you saw him.â She also urges Santa to get into shape for Senior Olympics. (Would his age group be M1600?)

Re: Reference letter for my Senior Olympics track coach
Dear Santa, They tell me you are coming to town. I hear you are making a list of children who have been âgood or badâ. This is a reference letter for my track coach. Please put him on your good list. He has been very good this year.
I thought a reference letter to Santa might be a good way to thank him for his help.
Santa, please make the season magical and open doors of opportunity for him. Whatâs that?âŚWhy not? ⌠He did what?⌠OhâŚWellâŚdefine âgoodâ? UmmâŚ
OK. I am sure he can explain that ⌠Please include all masters track coaches on your âgoodâ list also. We appreciate all of their efforts. Please give my coach all that he hopes for. He worked so hard. I know you saw him.
He even came to the track or gym after a long day at school and work. He gave words of encouragement, and a lifetime of experience. I got the âlife changingâ gift of learning fitness, health, confidence, and more. Sharing this journey with my daughter: Priceless. Santa, training with my coach gave me the wings to participate in Senior Olympics.
If the Olympics arenât just for the young ones, then âletters to Santaâ are open to all ages. Youâre an old guy- been around a long time; Want to join me in Senior Olympics? âProper exercise and eating habits add years and improve the quality of lifeâ. I.e. Less cookies and milk, more reps.
Itâs so much fun to do all these things. Please consider this reference letter when making out your list. My trainer has been good⌠(We wonât talk about that other stuff)âŚ
Sincerely, Debi
Senior Olympics Participant- Sprinting
P.S. And please make sure he has a basketball.
