Feast on old USA/world results, thanks to Jeff Brower

Turkey Day isn’t known for gift giving, but Texas hurdler Jeff Brower provides a big honkin’ present on this delicious American holiday — world and national masters outdoor championship results from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s! (He links to our USA results from 2000 to 2006). With permission from National Masters News to post the results online, Jeff says he spent well over 100 hours the past two years scanning results from the back of the papers and creating searchable PDF files. “I was lucky to do three in an hour,” he writes. Jeff invites donations to defray expenses, and my check is in the mail. (Really!)

Jeff informed us of the treasure yesterday.
He also wrote: “It’s not complete (would love to make it so, have some leads.) Our club is asking for donations to help with the resources required to create and post these. . . . I noticed that the 1979 Championships were titled The 12th Annual National AAU Masters T&F Outdoor Championships. That would seem to imply that the first meet was in 1968, so I’m missing a ton of early results! Would love to retrieve and scan and post them.”
In fact, the first USA masters nationals were held July 19-20, 1968 — in San Diego, where masters pioneer David Pain lived. The first six USA masters nationals were in San Diego, but the results for the first meet seem to be lost. David doesn’t have them (and would love to retrieve them for the sake of masters history.)
Jeff has results from several world masters meets that I hadn’t gotten. (But he’ll be happy to know that his missing results from 1995 Buffalo are on this site.)
Some true gems in these results, such as an age-graded 100 held at the 1989 Eugene nationals — where M35 Bill Collins raced M70 Payton Jordan!
1 Bill Collins M35 10.32
2 Ken Dennis M50 10.37
3 Payton Jordan M70 10.41
4 Bruce Spriagbettl155 10.84
5 Greg Holmes MJO 10.93
6 H Steinmsnn M45 11.01
7 Tim Murphy M65 11.04
8 Roger Assink M40 11.09
9 H Gath..””le M80 11.23
10 Herb Anderson M85 15.03
Bottom line: Jeff has filled in some huge gaps in our collective online memory. No longer are these older results buried in attics (or landfills). They are now available for anyone with a computer and Internet connection. This is huge.
Thank you, Jeff, for your tireless work. You’ve made our history come alive!

This is, indeed, another remarkable effort by a non-official WMA or USATF individual to get (and keep?) the records and results for masters T&F. Where is the Waterloo T&F club located?
