I see some of you have already posted results this year on the thread I started last spring. How about a new thread so we don't upset the guy who got his drawers in a wad last year. I have struggled with hamstring problems since last summer but I plan to open my season this Saturday at the usatf sw meet in Coppell, TX. I wanted to get back to running the 100/200 this year but my training has consisted mostly of cross training(stationary bike elliptical, etc) so I'll be running the 400. My conditioning is OK and with form running I think my technique is good, just don't know how my hammies will respond when I try to dig deep in the last part of a 400. I'll find out Sat. Post 'em if you got 'em.

I will be running my marathon in less than two weeks from today.
I strained my calf again back in Feb. and had to shut it down and restart in a 6 week section. I am now ready to go for the marathon, though I have done no tempo or vo2 workouts since that time. Thinking back on it now, I should have run a marathon back in early May so I could recover and start back up for track. As it is, I will have two weeks before my first meet, so I will be taking the first week off, start with very low and slow mileage the second week, and race the 1500 for my first two meets. In July, I will start to incorporate speed workouts and drop back down to the 800 for my meets.
I am looking to run between 3:10 and 3:20 for the marathon, and am hoping to get down to the 2:10 to 2:15 range for the 800 this summer. (If I remain calf injury free)

I won my 400 at usatf sw with a 58.16(about where I started last year).
When I dug deep at the 300 mark my legs responded well. I don't really have time goals anymore just hope to get through the season with no ham pulls. 1st meet of the season felt good and I hope to improve as the season progresses.

ran in my first 'chase of the season today with the young 'uns (high school kids). managed to beat 3 and get beat by 2 which i'll take. a good starting point as it was 1 second slower than nationals last year. so hopefully that's the sign of a good year ahead.

6 weeks 6 days till I run at nats...

Ran my marathon yesterday.

Run-sew- that hurts just to think about that. I can't imagine the pain of those last few miles. How long will you recover from that?

B-Mo-What event(s) are you sunning in Sac? I see you've already run a good 400 this year.

Mellow-Are you ready to lower your SC time in Sac? Keep on keeping on.

Looks like BMo is in the 2 & the 4.

I think I can run my fastest steeple of the 3 nat'ls I will have competed in at Sacto. But it may depend on the heat. Nonetheless, my training is finally getting figured out. I've been starting to hit it hard too early and fizzled out when nats rolls around but don't think that'll happen this year.

Look forward to seeing you in Sacto Lucky Lindy!

Well this is my first marathon, so I don't know exactly how my body will respond. Since I ran the first half fast and the second half slow, I don't think it will be as long as if I pushed the whole distance. I am taking several days off this week, and then start back in slow and see how it goes.
If I can't handle speed yet, I will run the Hayward classic 1500 with no speed work under my belt. If I am feeling recovered next week, I am thinking that I will be working on just speed over speed endurance. I think I will be doing something like 6 - 8 200's with a full recovery, dropping from my mile pace to a sprint by the last one or two. I don't know how fast that would be yet, I will have to play it by ear. My main concern is not to strain my calf in doing so. I think by focusing on full recovery 200's instead of repeat 400's or 800's or 1000's, I will reduce the risk of straining the calf. In the past, the strains have come from doing repeat 1000's and it is usually the 3rd or 4th one when it happens. I will also incorporate 20 minute tempo runs run at 6:20 mile pace or so on a different day of the week, but that might increase the risk of a strain.

I am altering my racing plans, and only racing three times this summer, each two weeks apart. This way I won't be racing on consecutive weekends, which I think has been another contributor to my past calf strains.

I am planning to run 1500 the Hayward classic on June 27, the 800 at the Oregon State games on July 10th, and then the 800 at the Washington state senior games on July 25th. With the nationals being held that weekend, I think a lot of the competition will be away, but still hope to get a good time despite that.

Will see you at a couple of those. I'll be at the Portland Masters Classic the 19th then I'm at Hayward and the State Games myself followed by nationals. Perhaps an OTC all-comers meet in there as well.

MJ & BMo-I wish I could be at Sacto but unless some things fall into place financially between now and the entry deadline I probably will not be there. I'll surely be following what 's happening though.
I plan on a long season with long intervals between meets. Probably 5/6 meets ending in late Oct. at the Texas Sr. Games to qualify for the NSG in Houston 2011. I've been going out too slow in my 400's for years for fear of blowing up in the last 100. I ran a negative split in my 1st meet this year so I ran a 300m time trial recently where I went out hard and just relaxed when the lactic hit after the 200. I ran a self timed 39.9(which would be 40.9FAT) and felt strong to the end. Was slowing the last 50m or so but gives me confidence that I can go out harder and hang on. That is the 1st sub 40 self timed 300 trial I've done in a workout since 2006 when I was consistently runnning 55 in my 400 races.

Good morning everyone,

Participated in the USATF Missouri Valley meet in Kansas City. Weather caused a 4-hour delay and the meet could have been run better but all and all it was a good day. Ran the 800 in 2:07.52. Like to have gone faster but I'll take it. Wanted to run the 1500 but the way they scheduled the meet around the Junion Olympics qualifying the 1500 came about 20 minutes after the 800 ( poor planning and the weather caused that one). Hope everyone is running well.

Bummer to hear that, lucky lindy, but understandable for sure. We had the last 3 days of school cut out and are taking a huge hit next year so the only way I'm able to go is because I can drive to Sacto and my best friend growing up now lives down there. If I had to throw down for a flight and a hotel or dorm room, I wouldn't be there, either.

Puts 2011 in jeopardy for me for sure but will cross that bridge when we come to it.

Stay in touch.
