Rocket Rod-I was warming up for my 400 and saw your 800. Looked good to me. The last 200 of the 8 is pure torture so I understand stopping for a drink.

1:30 for 600 is legit. 2:07 ain't nothing to sneeze at either. Nice job.

Rocketrod - that was a good 800 meter time, what is your age group?

Thanx R&S,

I'm in the 45-49....(48). Still want to find a better last 200. I've tried to back off the first 1/4 but that doesn't change anything. Going to have to find some power to go with what speed I have left. LOL. One meet left this summer to find a couple of seconds.

Rocketrod - Try to eat a powerbar about 30 minutes before you race and wash it down with water.
Also, shorten the stride and quicken the turnover on your sprint, make sure you are "breaking your wrists" to help keep yourself relaxed.

Ran a 2:20.75 today at the Seattle Masters classic. 4th overall and 2nd age group. Henry James won the age group (50 - 54) and the race in 2:09.
My legs felt like lead weights the last 100 meters, I faded pretty bad. Oh well, it wasn't for a lack of effort.
This is my last track meet of the summer, I will race the bowerman AC 5K next weekend at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton.

Set a new record Tuesday. Ran a 4 mile workout. It was 109*. Not the kind of record I wanted to set but had to get my work out in and had a very busy day. 8) Low humidity so it really wasn't as bad as it sounds. But it was still pretty darn hot. One last chance to break into the 2:06 range for the 800 next week. Hopefully it will cool off a bit.

Injured once again. After my last 800 meter race, I did a few strides with my Nike Matumbos' and pulled either my groin, hip flexor or got a sports hernia. I'm not sure which exactly, it is more in front of the hip in the lower fleshy area of the abdomen, but it also hurts down in the groin area. I tried to run the Bowerman 5K at the Nike campus a week ago, but was only able to run a 19:57. I have taken a week off and it is still sore, I will continue to take time off until I don't feel the pain.

Also - You can upload your own personal avatar on the site now.

R&S,

That is the same injury I had last spring. I had an x-ray done and should have had an MRI. I found out by my physio that the pelvis itself can be injured depending on how severe the pull is. Not to be the bearer of bad news but it took me about 6 months to heal and even 18 months later I still can't do anything that would require lateral movement. Hope you heal quickly. Got a good work out over the weekend. Grays Peak in Colorado. 4.5 hours of climbing to 14,270 feet and then 2.5 hours back down. Ready for hitting the pavement again this afternoon.

Back to long slow running. I still kind of feel the hip / groin area, so I am not going to push the pace just yet, but I am am running.
Did an overnight backpack trip on Mt Hood last weekend. 15.5 miles with 5000 ft elevation gain and a 35 lb backpack. I was pretty sore for two days afterward. I think this is great cross training.
Here is a pic of our campsite in the early morning light.

Backpacked in the Mt. Jefferson wilderness over the Labor day weekend with my wife, son and a friend. 48 hours - 25 miles - 5000 ft. elevation gain. Highs in the 50's, lows in the 30', cloudy but dry. No bugs.
