I want to recommend a book that is must reading for every masters athlete. It is the 3rd edition of "Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance," by Dr. Stuart McGill. McGill is a spinal biomechanist from Canada. I attended one of his seminars at the American College of Sports Medicine meeting about 8-years ago. His total body training methods changed the way I prepared for the sport and greatly reduced pains I was having in my back, knees, neck, and shoulders.

He discusses the concept of linkage in human movement and how to best train the body for the kinds of movements we do in track and field. His methods substitute body building routines that are common in most health clubs with whole body training methods that train movements rather than muscle. I think that if we follow his advice, we will perform better and last longer in the sport.

His book is self published and is available on his website:

www.backfitpro.com

By the way, I have no financial interest in this book.
