Got it.

The "weight" you sense during throwing would be the inertia of the implement's mass resisting acceleration. Since you ideally want to accelerate the implement continuously from start to finish, you would really never want it to feel weightless. Actually, the more weight you feel throughout the throw, the better.

I suppose that throwing a lighter implement from a stand could simulate the intertia of a heavier discus thrown from a spin, but I've never heard of using lighter or heavier implements for that purpose. All I've heard of is using hevier implements to build strength and lighter implements to improve quickness. It's an interesting thought though.
