Trying to find a javelin coach in the eastern Nebraska/western Iowa region. I've checked with the throwing coaches at Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State and Drake, but they are all too busy with the current track season to offer any help (understandable). I'm an M55 thrower and would appreciate any and all help in locating a coach. Thanks.

Check out my website, but more importantly, my blog.

I just started the blog, but I do have one article about the footwork in the javelin. This article should be a big help to you.

The blog with the article is trackcoach8000.wordpress.com

My coaching website is www.youreonathletic.com

I would be glad to coach you via the internet by you sending films.

Gary B.

Thanks Gary, I will check out your website. By the way, I did hook up with Mark Kostek, the throws coach at Drake University. He was kind enough to spend some time with me at the Drake track facility last May and give me some great pointers. This winter I have been focused on building my base of strength. Now that it will be getting nicer outside, I plan to start really focusing on arm speed. An old friend of mine was a very successfel javelin athlete and he used to throw 40 - 60 baseballs three times a week in the offseason to maintain his arm speed. Of course, he also was a former baseball pitcher. Don't know if this will work for me, but I'm going to give it a try. If nothing else, it seems to be a reasonable type of cross training.
