Simpdog,

See you in Oshkosh. I would love to see what Clyde had Baylor sprinters do for ham pulls and prevention. Wonder if it works for 50 year olds?

Good Luck to all of you heading to nationals this next weekend.
I will be running the 800 at the state games of Oregon. Hopefully there will still be some runners around that I can stay close to so I can get a good time.
I raced a 5K on the 4th and ran a 19:28. I actually sprinted near the finish when someone yelled that someone else was sprinting behind me.
I am so happy that I didn't strain anything yet, so I still have hope to get a good 800 meter time before the summer is over.

Good luck to you as well. Would definitely be at the State Games if I wasn't in Oshkosh. Next year planning on competing in both as State Games is 2 weeks prior to Nats...

All-comers meet #1 in Eugene. I did 400 @ 57.0, 800 @ 2:15.5, good start to my short season this year.

Nice work Byrke! Good start to the late season. I tried your 800/400/800/200 workout a few days ago and couldn't finish it. Not all of us can be "track demi-gods" like you. Did the 800 in 2:45, recovered 12 minutes then ran a 64.1 400m. I couldn't convince myself to do another 800M, so I did 200M (26.2) and another 200M (27.8). 10 minute rest in between.

Will try to get back into spikes next week as the achilles is starting to feel better. Keep up the great work and training. Good luck with the local all-comers.

Solid double BMo. I have yet to try that 800/400/800/200 workout. I may try it for "fun" after the season is over. Recently ran 2x300@41.06 and 41.50 with 7 minutes recovery. did not run completely all out as I wanted to run it like a 400. Yesterday did 4x100's all high 12's. Tomorrow the BayState Games. running the 300's that way gives me a clue of how I want to run this 400 tomorrow. Of course, the excitement of a race may cause me to go out faster and die, but hey, that's what we do. qtrmiler, I understand the not wanting to run the 2nd 800 in that workout. At that point a speedy 200 is so much easier and fun.

My training the last 5 days-eating ice cream and resting. After my ham pull I did lots of ice, then heat, massage, and prayer. Went to Oshkosh on 3 weeks of rest, easy workouts(no running for 5 days after the ham injury), and unsure of what would happen in Oshkosh. I was surprised at how easy a 58.80 heat felt. That put me in lane 2 for the finals and I stuck with my usual strategy of even pacing. I came back on the field from 2-300 mark and felt I could run down the men in 3rd and 4th. I asked my legs for more in the homestretch and they said not today. So I finished 5th in a season best 57.74. All 5 of my 400's this season were within a second of each other. The meet was fantastic, the camaraderie was great, and after letting my legs rest for a few weeks I will start building a base for 2010. I hope to see some forum members (I met Mellow Johnny in Oshkosh) in 2010.

Great race Lindy.
I ran the state games of Oregon 800 meters 50-54 age group.
I took 2nd in my age group, and 4th overall.
They had us start in a waterfall start since there were too many for s stagger start.
I ended up in lane one, so I took out hard. On the back stretch, I kept the pace and went through the 200 in 32, and then dropped back into the pack.
I went through in a 67 and finished with a 75, or a 2:22. Thinking back, I probably shouldn't have gone out for the lead, and tried to get in the pack early on. I race this Saturday in the Seattle classic 800 meters. I am thinking of donning my spikes for the first time this year. I have been using my racing flats up until now.
Good luck in your training everyone. Is anyone planning anymore track meets or road races the rest of the summer or fall?

Nice work Lindy and R&S!
Yes, I am planning on running more this year. The Eugene All-Comers meets are just underway, occurring every Thursday through July and the first week of August, This eve was meet #2. I ran only the 800 but ran a new pr - 2:08.0. I am very pleased.
Keep up the good work all.

Good 800's R&S & BMo. You have a good combo of endurance and speed, perfect for the 8. Keep it up.

Great to meet you in the athlete's tent in Oshkosh, lucky lindy. Great race as well.

Perhaps next year in Sacramento we can have a gathering one of the night's of masterstrack.com folk(?)

Good to meet you also Mellow Johnny. If the weather in Sacto is the norm(about like Texas) then they better have a big tent. Oshkosh was so "mellow" the tent was barely needed(but much appreciated). Are you taking some time off or still training for more track or cc?

Took 3 days off then got back to running but just doing it to stay in shape and not specifically training for anything. No more track for me this summer I think. Love that shift from training to just running to run.

Well, I ran my last track meet of the year today at the Seattle Masters Classic.
I place 4th overall, 2nd age group.
I ran against my first "real" runner.
I can't remember the gentlemen's name, but the guy who won my age group also was the overall winner, running a 2:07, and that is coming off on a 55 400 meters a couple of hours earlier. He outkiced a 36 year old to win.
I held to 4th place right from the break, and just couldn't shift gears. I ran my best time of the year at 2:18.53, so I was happy with that, but now I am motivated to improve next year. I tried to simulate winner's stride, but he was just too good I could get the length of the stride, but not keep the stride rate. He just seemed to float.
I went through the 200 hearing 32...33 called, and went through the 400 in 66 and some change, and finished with a 71 or so, according to my watch.
With no real speed training, I had no gears to shift. I will have to ponder this for next season, and see what I can come up with so I can run fast but not get injured.

I finished the season injury free!!!
