Well, I have changed my training plan to get me ready for next summers track meets.

I have entered the Newport marathon (on the Oregon coast), which will be held on my 52 birthday next June 5th. My goal is to be able to run the marathon between 3:00 and 3:15.
I am hoping that the endurance I will get in the training for and racing 26 miles will allow me go into next track season in the best shape of my life, and with that endurance combined with some speed (after a short recovery period), I am hoping to be able to race the 800 / 1500 with a lot more endurance than I have had in many years.
In the last few years, I have started training around March/April, and was running at 28 - 30 miles per week by the time track started for me at the end of June. This year, I will be coming off of 50 - 60 miles per week, and then dropping down to 30 - 40 miles per week with a taper of 20 - 30 miles per week.

Hey Gang!
Been hibernating in the gym and the pool for the past 3 months. Trying to rest/heal my achilles strain that kept me out of competition in 2009. Will get back on the road and track next week in preparation for the 2010 season. Byrke - sounds like you are the 5K/10K demi-god this fall. Hope that all is well with you and yours.

Good luck to all and stay healthy....

Big Mo,

Back to running again after the little mis hap with the car on Halloween. Raced in a 4-miler last Saturday. 22 degrees with a 14 wind chill. (Little Nippy). Finished in 25:57. Felt pretty good but my legs were tired from a lot of training. Hip felt OK. Ready for the indoor track season.

Run hard....have fun!

Nice work all!
I have been lying low for the past few months. Just trying to keep the winter weight off, running a couple times a week, lifting a couple times a week, wanting to be mentally fresh for 2010.
There is supposed to be a Hayward Classic next yr...hope y'all can make it. It's a great event.

Great lineup in Oregon this year leading up the Outdoor Nats in Sacto. Will be running in the 'chase at the Portland Masters Classic/Oregon Champs, Hayward Classic/NW Region Champs, State Games of Oregon, and Outdoor Nats. May get an early June race in there as well.

Am hoping to reverse the trend that I've had in my 2 years of masters track of running my slowest time at Nationals. Heat, travel, etc. haven't boded well. I haven't run terrible, but a few seconds off my normal times.

rocket - glad ur a-gram came back ok! What a a relief. Even though our running keeps us healthier than most, it does not make us immune to the problems of aging.

mj - I like ur enthusiasm for 2010. I'll be at many of those meets.

As for me, after a 2009 season that was somewhat of a bust I am "goin for it" for 2010. I've "hired" a friend to coach me (he was a sprint coach for 14 yrs in CO) and have set my goals for new PRs this yr as well as Nats in Sacto. Also looking to put together a NW 4 x 400 team for Nats in 40-49 group if anyone is interested. Or if Mike Waller wants to run on the younger guys team that'd be OK too.

Be well!

Thanks Bmo. Actually ran 7 miles yesterday and felt fine. Doctors think I may have over cooked myself after a Christmas trip to Nothern Ireland and just didn't get enough rest. Ready to get after it again.

Rocketrod:- If your trip to Northern Ireland involved as many pubs as mine would, then I can see why you'd need some serious recovery

BMo-Sounds good, man. See you out there. Hope the training goes well for you.
