The Portland Track Festival in Portland has held a master’s men’s mile hosted by Dave Clingan for a few years now but until last year there was no race for master’s women. Last year Joanna Harper put together a 3000 meter race for the old gals. And things went pretty well too.

Trina Painter won the race in 9:56 and Carmen Troncoso bettered the American record for W50 with her 10:10. The race also featured such well known runners as Christine Olen, Tania Fischer and Kirsten Leetch. The field was good enough that Alyssa Tower could only finish 7th in the race. Later in the year she would place 5th at Club National Cross Country.

But this year’s race is shaping up to be even better. All six runners who finished in front of Alyssa plan to return. In addition Sabra Harvey, Karen Steen and Tatyana Pozdnyakova all intend to join the fun. However, there is still room for more women.

The race will be held Saturday evening June 12th at Lewis and Clark College in Portland Oregon. This date should provide close to ideal weather for middle distance running. There is a small amount of prize money with $200, $100 and $50 for the first 3 women and $100 for the highest age grade. The meet website is

tgirl, I'm not familiar with this meet. Do you know if all the events are open to Masters?

Most standard events are open to masters but there may not be many masters at them. I know of a hand full of masters who competed during last year's day session on Saturday.

You can contact meet director Craig Rice at the previous web site if you need more details.

The premier masters events are the men's mile and the women's 3000 meters.

Greetings milers!

Just a heads up that the deadline for entering the Oregon Invitational Masters Mile will be Thursday, May 27. We have almost a full field now, but I can probably add one or two more runners. The current entry list is posted at
http://www.xro.com/Mile/entrylist10.html

The qualifying time for this event is 4:45, but if you are close to that mark and interested in running, please let me know.

If you are on the entry list and have not yet registered, please do so at:
http://www.directathletics.com/meets/track/14711.html

If you are on the list and have decided to scratch for some reason, please let me know.

The race will take place at Lewis and Clark College in the evening (after 7pm) on Saturday, June 12. The schedule of events is posted here:
http://portlandtrack.org/festival/schedule.html

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

regards,
Dave Clingan
