I attended my first Masters Nationals last week and it was quite a first experience. The field in the M50 javelin was extremely deep in talent. I never thought I would be in a Masters meet where 6 guys threw over 50m and each had a chance to walk away with the gold. All of the throwers in the finals (eight) exceeded the All-America mark in the meet by at least 5 feet. In fact third place was decided by 10 cm. I was in awe of the excellent group of guys which included (I heard) at least one former NCAA champion, and several NCAA national meet finalists, and several former Masters Nationals champions. It certainally sets a high bar for some of us mortals to shoot for next year!
* I also want to commend the officials, who I felt were outstanding. There is always controversary over flat throws in javelin, but overall they were great.
USATF: * 70.71m
