wondering why the spacing changes for the older age groups. I am a new hurdler (learning so I can do pent) but it seems to create a mess at meets. I have never seen a track with marks for 7 meter spacing. The past meet I just did we were out on the track with a tape measure and tape figuring out the placement. What a hassle!

I can see lowering the barriers but why change spacing? I saw another meet where you had to preregister ONLY If you were doing hurdles due to the time involved in setting up the different spacings.

Is it just so experienced hurdlers can still 3 step? Would usatf ever consider keeping all the same spacing?

Kim

7m is 50 plus! 40 plus is 8 meters. Both 80m.
And I agree it is a mess and only changing heights would be enough for me. But others say they want to three-step them their whole life.
When I was 52 I was preparing for the double heptathlon: 100m 76cm 8.50m
But I had to be prepared for the open class interclub competition: 100m 84cm 8.50m
And liked to do our nationals W50: 80m 7m 76cm
But often in our nationals age classes are combined: 80m 8m 76cm
I loved training them all. Not :-(

Oh thanks for the correction. I never hurdled before I was in the W50 so I thought it was closer beginning at 40.

So basically the whole mess and hassle is for someone's ego? Seems odd.

At our local corporate league meet we use the 8m spacing for everyone. So much easier.
