Track and field is an interesting sport because it is so demanding of a wide variety of skills, often combining running, throwing, jumping and gymnastics. Which events do you think are the most technically demanding?

Here is one suggested ranking, with the most technically demanding as number one to the least at number ten.
1. Pole vault
2. Hammer
3. Javelin
4. Discus
5. High jump
6. Hurdles
7. Shot Put
8. Triple jump
9. Long jump
10. Any sort of running

I am not sure. For me they are all difficult, though some are more interesting than others. Practice can be frustrating, but when I get something right--even if it is just a slight improvement--it is quite satisfying.

Well I'll share my perspective as a relative newcomer to track and field. I have trained for and completed three penthathlons (one indoor, two outdoor). I had to learn all the field events from scratch.

I am looking at this from the point of view of which events you can get by in without really knowing what you are doing (they say write what you know...)

The two that I don't think you CAN get by in very well would be pole vault and hurdles. So I would put those at the top of technically challenging.

To do each WELL, that's another ranking, but my ranking is the Can Get By ranking....

Cheers.
