With no club/team to help motivate me or hold me accountable for my training, I thought I'd post my goals here. Please give me a virtual butt-kicking if I don't update progress! Feel free to jump into the thread with your personal goals as well.

1. Compete at least 4 times in Javelin
Tentatively, have 5 opportunities on the calander.

2. Get at least one mark over 160' (48.76m)
Averaged just 43.61 in the three meets last year, still feel this is a realistic goal as I have trained harder this year and am closer to the shape I was in when averaging 50m.

3. Find a club with Open/Masters focus that isn't just a running club
This is a headache but I do have a few local leads that may hold promise.

4. Do at least 4 charitable track & field endeavors
Whether a donation of time to help at a meet, or financial contribution to a low income athlete, would like to do at least 4 efforts.

5. Teach a few kids the basics of the javelin throw w/ a turbo jav
In Ohio, javelin is not a H.S. event, but I still would like to give the jav some exposure as it's a fun event!

I think #4 is especially admirable. Please consider being a Special Olympics volunteer if there's an event in your area. I've worked with them in the past and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had.

Love your goals. I'm 41M and have been getting back in shape, originally planning to run 800m (my HS event 23 yrs. ago) at this summer's all-comer's meets. Same deal -- no club to train with, although I go to a fitness trainer who helps me with some stuff. Lately I've been rethinking my goals; I seem to have good speed still, and frankly the 800m training is a killer, especially with work and family life already on the plate. I was thinking sub-2:10 800m, which I may still try. But now I'm also thinking 23.5/54.5

m50 thrower, looking for 17.09 and then 18.46 with shot, 20.39 and the 22.53 with weight. So far, no meets, but 17.40 shot and 16.45 with the 35lb weight and ~27m with 16lb weight in training. Need to get a 25 lb weight.

17.40 is a big number that beats the American record. Good luck with some far throws this season!

Thanks for the good wishes. Yeah, 17.08 is the American Record and 18.45 is the world record. Getting older is fun!

My goal is to train through the year, so I can compete in 2008, when I will turn 50. To do this I will have to stay injury free.
Considering that I already have an inflamed knee, I have my work cut out for me.

W40 ...in feet because I'm not used to metric.
Shot Put 30 feet
Discus 85 feet
Javelin 85-90 feet
Hammer - learn to do it and not hurt anyone standing near the ring...
Weight Throw - learn basics...again without hurting anyone or embarrassing myself!

Got my 200 goal for this season. Ran at the all-comers meet yesterday and did the 200 in 24.7. I might have achieved my under 55sec goal for the 400 too but the timers said the chrono malfunctioned. Arghh!!
