Why should the delegates to the Indy national meeting have all the fun? I nominate Joy Upshaw-Margerum. She knows USATF inside and out as a coach, athlete and older sister of an Olympian. She's competed in world and American masters nationals, winning many titles. She's been masters chair of the Pacific Association USATF in Northern California for several years and knows the bureaucratic ropes. She communicates well and invites correspondence. She won't play backroom secrecy games. She's involved in the bid to bring the masters world meet to Sacramento in 2011, so she knows how to deal with World Masters Athletics. She has energy to burn. Only drawback: She'd put all the previous masters chairs to shame, and make the American masters movement wonder: "What the hell were THEY all about?" Case closed. |
