Post subject:  Check-in for nationals

I know for some meets there is registration for the meet at certain times a day before the meet starts at the meet headquarters to ick-up packets or additional information. Is there registration for nationals on the 8th or do you just check-in at the meet the day of your event at a specific location or is it at the actual event site? Also do you just wiegh-in implements a little bit before the event at a specific location or at the event site itself or are there specific times to do this? First nationals so I'm just curious if anyone could help me out with these questions.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

This is just my second nationals, my first was Decatur, IL in 2004. I seem to remember check-in and implement inspection being very clearly outlined on the USATF master nationals website for the 2004 meet. But there's nothing for this one.

I emailed Jason Fast at Oshkosh with my questions about implement inspection, and got back basically a non-response. I'm sure he's getting a shitload of annoying emails, but it would have been nice if he actually read my questions and gave an answer or two.

I'm guessing I'll find out the morning of the hammer when I arrive. I live close enough that I'm driving in that morning to compete at 9:30am, then driving home. I plan to get there around 7:30, which should be enough time to check in and get my hammer weighed in.

I wouldn't be sure that 2 hours ahead will be enough time to get your implement weighed in and the delivered to the venue. That said there really should be information on the meet website about things like this.

Post subject:  Well...

I noticed the packet pick-up note on the homepage now of the website. I guess just get there as early as possible the first day to see what needs to be done. Thanks for the information guys.
One last thing.
What is the usual cost to get into the meet? My wife is accompanying me and was just wondering what she should expect to pay each time she goes.
Thanks again guys.

Jerry, you may be right about 2 hours not being enough time. It depends, however, on how early the weight and measures officials will be available that morning. I can adjust my schedule to arrive earlier, but I'm not staying the night before.

I'll try another email to Jason Fast to clarify things.

Thanks,
Greg

Coach A, I believe there's no admission fee for fans at masters nationals. I think I recall that being the case in 2004, plus I remember reading it on a previous masters nats website.

Too bad this info isn't readily available for this year's nats.

Post subject:  Thanks for...

information GTheo. Hopefully by the end of the week we have all the information we need for the meet next week. If you find anything out about implement check-in times let me know. Thanks again.

We have to remember that they rescued this meet from Clermont so they didn't have as much time as they normally would have to set everything up. So if these are the major issues we have to deal with then so be it. We'll manage and I'm sure they'll do the best they can to inform and correct anything that needs to be done as they have been doing so far up to this point. Keep up the good work to all those involved in the meet preparation.

Just so I'm clear here, I realize that I'm being an asshole...

My email to Jason today:

Hi Jason,

I know you’re busy and my questions were likely not very clear. I’ll try again:

- What time will implement check-in for hammer be open on Friday, July 10?
- Where will implement check-in for hammer take place?
- How far is the implement check-in location from hammer circle 2?
- How far is the implement check-in location from the packet pick-up location (the Festival Foods Ticket Booth located at the front gate of the stadium)?

Thanks very much,

Greg

His response a few minutes ago, and I consider nothing in his response to be personal or confidential -- but purely informational, so I have no problem posting it:

All of this info will be posted on the usatf website sometime this afternoon. circle 2 is across the stadium i dont have a measurement for you for any of your questions. Just know that they are all in the stadium.

From http://www.usatf.org/events/2009/USAMas ... pionships/ :

Quote:
Implement weigh ins will be on Wednesday from 3pm - 6pm and Thurs-Sunday from 7am until the last field event starts. All implements must be weighed in no later than 1.5hrs before your event is scheduled to compete. There will be one house implement per event otherwise athletes are encouraged to share or bring their own implements. Implement Weigh in will take place at the Continental Girbau Laundry Room which is on the southern half of the stadium concourse.

Update from Jason, found on Ken's blog. Good thing I'm looking!!! Important info in bold for field events:

scratch that last post by Ken. ALL events will have to declare at least an hour out. Field events declare at their event area. I talked to Jim Flanik and this is how it is done at Worlds so I believe this is what will be best for the athletes. Especially those competing at worlds. That being said we will have a short declaration period Wed July 8th at the stadium for the 5k runners only to give them an option if they dont want to be there and declare by 6:30am the next day. Times to come soon. stay tuned to the USATF Masters website and this blog for corrections.
