I recently received an email from the Track coach where I competed many years ago. He is considering holding an alumnus t&f meet in the future. In my experience, these meets tend to attract the youngest alumni. Even the fittest of older athletes would have difficulty competing on a level playing field with one is one to five years out of college. I believe that age-grading the events would attract older competitors. I have seen sprint races that had actual staggered starts marked on the track according to age. I have seen middle distance races have different starting times based on age. All of these races were exciting and close at the finish. Field events are easily handled by reporting age-graded distances/heights. Where would one find the information needed to set this up?
