Post subject:  Value of ham and glute machine?

Several friends have told me about the value of the ham and glute machine for the throwing events. I purchased one from Sorinex and Burt Sorin (young guy who threw the hammer about 230 feet a few years ago). He told me that Suzy Powell bought one of the devices from him the same day I bought mine.

I bought it so that I would have a stronger hip movement during the throw. Unfortunately, I have relied on my upper body strength to throw the discus, and my legs are suing me for non-support.

Has anyone used this machine? I spend a lot of money on exercise gagets to help me throw further. This one was fairly expensive ($1000). I hope it does some good and doesn't hurt my back. Any comments?

Hi Tom,

You're really getting into the realm of power lifting now!

I'm sure Dave Tate at Elite FTS would give you some excellent info. Any information from Louie Simmons would be very helpful as well.

I have been considering a glute-ham machine as well, so I would love
to get your thoughts after you use it for a while.

I have attacked the posterior chain by using Sumo deadlifts with bands.
very effective. (I got that one off a Louie Simmons video)

Best of Luck,

Sure it will help, but so will olympic lifts, squats, and deadlifts. Personally, I think the price is too much for the benefit. But then I am also in the positon of having to decide between paying for a trip to throw or paying for a trip to lift. If I had the money, I'm sure I would have one too.

I like the machine very much. I am throwing further than I have in years, but I can't say that this machine is the cause.
