What type of interval distances is best for 400meter training 100m to 300m or 300-500m during the mid season? Also what would be to best total distance (example: 200m X 6 reps = 1200 meters) per day when added?

I would do longer intervals earlier in the season, and move to the shorter intervals as the season progresses.
I would pay attention to how I am progressing in my races to see if I need speed or endurance workouts.
If you are doing two speed workouts a week, I would do the longer intervals on the first day, and then the shorter intervals on the second speed workout.

I agree with what runandsew said. Early in the season I like the endurance type workout 500 and 600. During the season I think you need to shorten it up to do more speed type work like 100m ,150m ,200m and 300m.

100m Good for speed and training the body to run into the curve.
150m Good for speed and training the body to run out of the curve.
200m Good for speed.
300m Good for speed endurance.

Earlier part of the season (Like Now) 2 x 500 + 300 pace 1.15-1.20 + 42-45 depending on your ability 8 minutes between reps and 12 minutes btw sets
towards the end of your season and peaking 1 set 500 + 300 85-90% effort 15-20 minutes rest.
Also you can run 3 x 300 walk 100m run 100m 8min. rest. Run a little faster than the previous on each rep. again depending on ability you can run 40-45 sec pace.
Lastly 2 x 4 x 200m 29-30 second pace 2 minutes rest btw reps 6 minutes btw sets. reducing later to one set 27-29 sec pace.
As your season goes on increase intensity, reduce reps and increase recovery. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me and good luck this season.[/img]
