Where do I work in polymetrics? During an off day? As a warm up to a workout? After? During? Never??

I usually choose two days during the off season to work on Plyometrics and one day during the season. The reason I do one during the regular season because I am focusing in on specific things for my events. Remember Plyometrics are not warm-up exercise.

It might be a good idea to find a soft surface to do plyos....like the infield or a beach. Plyos done on a hard track surface on a regular basis will kill your knees and joints. I do my standing hop-step-jump drills right in the jumping pit. You can even depth jumps in the pit.
Hope this helps.
Linda :)

You don't say what your event is, but from my point of view, as a sprinter, when I do plyometric work is pretty important. That's because adjusting to it hurts!

I suspect very few of us do enough work that emphasises the eccentric sterngth of our leg muscles, and I suffer badly with DOMS every time I start a phase of plyometric work. Quads particularly. For that reason, I don't tend to do much of it during competition (say January to March, and April to September). It's something I include after an October to early November general conditioning phase, and, at a lower intensity, during March/April alongside trying to rectify the things that didn't go well in the indoor season!

Take care, though. I pulled a hamstring late April. I'm sure that muscle imbalance between quads and glutes was part of the cause, so be sure to exercise both pretty evenly.
