I turned the BIG 30 in late May. I have not competed in a competitive track and field meet since my freshman year in college, but would like to get involved with Masters track.

I would like to particpate in some meets, but don't know where to begin. I live in Beaufort, SC and the only track clubs that I know of are in Greenville, SC and Charlotte, NC.

Could someone answer a few questions for me. Do I have to join a club? If so, can I join a club when I don't live in that city? What do I need to do to join a club? It would be difficult for me to travel to the clubs nearest to me to practice/train. Do I have to practice with the club in order to join? Is there a minimum to the number of meets that you must compete in each year?

Any advice/info. on getting started with Masters track would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Rion Salley

I'm not sure if there are different rules for 30 year olds but for 40 and over, you do not need to belong to a club to participate in Masters meets. All that is usually necessary is to be a member of USATF Masters and be able to prove your age. Of course there is usually an entry fee and rules of participation.

There is no minimum number of meets you must compete in. Also, there are no performance standards to enter a meet; not even at the national championships. If you pay your entry fee on time and show up on time, you can compete.

Enjoy!

Needs to be updated, but advice is solid.
