Does anyone know the official policy on discus as an airline carry-on item? I have been stopped once but allowed through on other occasions.

Tom,

I have carried my discs on planes a number of occasions, both in the US and in other countries. Quite often it causes a sensation amongst the security folks, but I've never been stopped from carrying them. My impression is that there is no "policy" on the subject, meaning it's up to the local screeners and their supervisors to make the call. The debate and puzzlement I've witnessed, including by supervisors, is what leads me to that conclusion.

Jerry

I received an email from the Feds. They said that while a discus is not specifically on the banned list, it is up to the discretion of the security person to decide if it constitutes a threat. In other words, if the security person is in a bad mood then you have to check the discus.

I just bought a jar of Cramer firmgrip. I probably should check that in my luggage.

I think the spray is better than spit. I'm not too sure about the gel. I received a lifetime supply (a large jar) and tried it at an all-comer meet last week. I put too much on and the discus stuck to my hand. I think I will use the spray on Friday in Orano. However, I brought the gel for my competitors to use.
