Are there only certified meets where your time can be submitted as a record, for All American status, rankings, etc.?

Not that I'm anywhere close to anything like that, but I was just curious what standards had to be met by a meet. For example, is a local all comers meet acceptable? How about a meet where corporations compete against each other?

For record consideration, many criteria must be met -- the least of which is USATF sanction. This means the meet director has to make sure all elements of the meet (including officiating and measurements) pass muster with USA Track & Field.
