Just got this in an e-mail regarding "new wording" for rules of team competitions. It is so new that it is apparently not in the USATF website's version. This really floored me.

Did anyone else know about this ? I have 2 concerns:
A) Why is LDR (mainly XC) subject to this and not Track. With a team of mostly distance runners, how do I explain that some people on our club can run for us at Track Nationals but they can NOT at XC Nationals ?
B) Why is this rule even necessary ? We already have a 90-day rule ? It sounds like Association membership numbers are the priority over the rights of individual members to run for whichever club they chose .

Re: USATF Competition Rule 4

The 2007 USATF Competition Rule Book contains new language in Rule 4 – Eligibility for Team Championships. This rule directly affects the team entries for the 2007 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships scheduled for December 8, 2007 at Voice of America Park in West Chester, Ohio. The Cross Country Council, the Club Council and Masters LDR have developed the following information to help you enter your teams:

2007 USATF Competition Rules
RULE 4: ELIGIBILITY FOR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
In all USATF Team Championships, whether National, Regional or Association, only teams consisting of duly accredited representatives of a member club shall be eligible to win such team Championship. In Regional Championships, the team Championship may be contested on the basis of Association teams instead of club teams, at the option of the Games Committee.
In Long Distance Running, an athlete who is a non-resident member of an Association is eligible to compete for a team in that Association only if the athlete:
a) resides in an adjoining Association and the Association of residence does not offer the program, or
b) neither the Association of residence nor any Association adjoining the Association of residence offers the program.

NOTE: An athlete with historical membership (at least 3 continuous USATF membership years) in a club is eligible to compete for that club.[/b]
