I am in good shape but have a problem when I do my wind sprints. I get a strong acid reflux each time I sprint, whether doing 50's, 100's or 200's. It is not my heart, since I have had all the heart tests. The only time I get the acid reflux is in sprinting, not in any other part of the workout. Taking a couple of Peptaids or Zantac minumizes the problem, but I don't want to have to depend on medication. I am looking for someone who has experience in overcoming this problem.

Get it checked properly, IMHO.

I had much the same about three years back, which was diagnosed as a fairly mild hiatus hernia. If these get serious they can need surgery, but all mine needed was something stronger than Zantac for a decent period of time, and it settled down. Many possible causes apparently. Running is likely only to be revealing the symptoms, and won't ultimately be the cause, so take heart! I was on a daily pill for about six months, but haven't needed any medication for it since.

A decent break between eating and training will help, as will eating all of the "right things" that digest fairly well before you train.

Tom's right, you ought to get things formally evaluated as the diffreential diagnosis is long. Either your internist, family practitioner or (heading straight to the expert) a gastroenterologist should be able to help. :)

I struggled for years until I was diagnosed a few years ago with mild GERD (gastro esophageal reflex disease) - symptoms always worse after exercise (mild flu symptoms - slight headache, stinging eyes, sore throat).

I take 15mg of Lasoprazole daily and the results have been incredible. Diagnosis was made by an Ear, Nose Throat specialist who did a Barium meal x-ray
