I'm wondering how other people "get over" having a bad meet? I toss and turn all night, I replay and replay the events, I fret and worry... and I natter at my husband "What if I'd...", "Wish I had ...." Ffinally I just get sick of thinking about it.

Even if I have some idea what went wrong I still beat myself up. I know I went into my last meet overtired. I was sore and achy the day before from working out too hard in the days prior. My long jump was 14 inches off what I did two week before! My high jump was the worst I've done this year. My sprints were all slow even though I felt like I was running as hard as I could.

So here I am still whining. What do YOU do get past a disappointing event?

I have a couple of beers, sit out on my back deck and take note of my beautiful family, house, life.

Well said, BMo! I also look forward to the next possible meet. One good performance can erase several poor performances.

Poor meets are part of the game. I try to find 1 point for improvement for the next time, or to work on in practice.

Don't think of a poor meet as a failure, but turn it into Finding Another Important Lesson Upon Reflecting on the Experience. Sometimes the joy of a meet is in being able to compete (think of others who can't because of injury), or in meeting old and new friends, or in the travelling/tourist part surrounding the meet in a new location. Each meet has its own flavour and memories. The competition might not be the memorable ingredient of that meet, but perhaps the other ingredients were more memorable.

good post, The competitor in me gets a little ticked about not jumping or performing well in a meet. If there is an upcoming meet, then that can ease some of the mild dissapppintment. However if you do an event (such as the steeplechase) where you may not get to run it again for a while it can be a little frustrating, The other posts here state it well.
