Turns out I may need to have a spinal fusion at L5/S1.

A couple of the doctors I've spoken with suggest I'll be as good as new once I recover and that there should be no limitations to my activity.

Others have said they don't expect I'll be able to train, let alone compete in my 2 events -- 100m and LJ

(They're all in agreement that they don't want me to pole vault :-( )

Anyone here have any experience with this surgery to share some words of wisdom?

Thanks!

-Steven

No experience, yet, but I too am facing spinal surgery it appears -- also L5/S1.

I've been looking into laser surgery instead of the traditional. Don't know if you'd be a candidate or not, but it appears that it may be a better alternative. I'll probably be making my decision in a couple of weeks, but they tell me I am a candidate for the laser procedure.

Laser surgery? What's your condition? (I can't imagine what a laser would do as a replacement for a fusion)

I have a spondylolisthesis where the pars is broken off of the vertebral body, which means L5 is in 2 parts.
