After 6 months of training as a newbie 58 yr old sprinter, I tore a groin muscle with 15 meters to go in the 55m. I was flying.
How does one prepare one's muscles for the 110% effort in the competitive moment when training is usually 95-100% ??

Build up more slowly. One of the pitfalls in masters track is to want to grow too fast, resulting in this kind of injuries. We all know them unfortunately.

I also suggest weight training to strengthen the muscle/tendon attachments.
