I recently, July 9th had a mitral valve repair on my heart. Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience recovering from this type of surgery. The valve leakage was the only issue as I have low cholesterol and low blood pressure with no placque. I have been doing the walking routine suggest since getting out of the hospital on July 15th. Walking a little over a mile and a half daily. I was lucky in that the surgery was done robotically and did not require splitting the sternum. No pain meds since the 14th. Any experiences would be appreciated. Doctors all say time is key.

Masters 65, sprints, long jump triple and distance.

Had quad-bypass in august of 2002. Back to regular workouts by October. No physical limits. Today I feel great and working out is no problem except for the occasional injury that I might have. Hang in there and you'll be back unless time than you think. Follow the Drs orders and you'll be competing again soon.
