I've averaged 45 mi a week since March. Just started doing short hill reps 3 weeks ago. 8 x 100m hill. 2 times a week. Last week had a lower calf strain occur as I jogged a mile prior to a 1 mile time trial (didn't get to do it).

I've been cycling and icing. I've seen explanations of this injury as bing a compartment syndrome problem, etc. What are your ideas? Seems that masters runners get this more often than young runners?

I know the exact injury you have. This is my third time with the same type of calf injury. There is an excellent article that addresses this calf injury. Go to the "Runinng Times" website and type in "calf heart attack". This will take you to an excellent article that was submitted in 1996. Good Luck!
