This concept has important implications for men and women in masters track. From Fahey's Health Research column in Muscular Development magazine:

Do Men Have Biological Clocks?
Women begin menopause when they stop menstruating. Until recently, most health experts did not think that men experienced any abrupt physical changes as they aged. That attitude is changing. Reproductive capacity decreases markedly after age 35 in men, as do the chances of producing abnormal offspring. Men too have biological clocks. Middle age sexual changes include decreased sperm counts and testosterone, abnormal sperm, erectile dysfunction, smaller testicles, and genetically altered sperm and semen. Low testosterone levels cause decreased muscle and bone mass, loss of sex drive, decreased energy levels, abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, and coronary artery disease. Prescriptions for supplemental testosterone have increased dramatically every year since 1999. Men have a biological clock and an optimal window of opportunity for fathering children.
