Has anybody had experience with prolo therapy?

My new physical therapist diagnosed the causes of my now chronic left hip injury as a combination of weak core muscles and excessively flexible left SI joint. He prescribed kegels for the core. For the SI, he said that the ligaments are stretched and referred me to an MD for prolo therapy. This is an injection of an irritant into the ligaments (that connect the SI, in this case). The resulting scar tissue has the effect of shortening the ligament, which stabilizes the joint.

The theory sounds ok to me, but I have these concerns:
1) Risk of debilitating damage to the ligament tissue.
2) This is my lead leg for hurdling. If I lose too much flexibility on the left side, hurdling may become difficult. As it is currently, the constantly reinjured hip rotator prevents hurdling anyway.

Any suggestions, encouragement, or warnings about prolo therapy?

Thanks,
Brian McKinley

I have never heard of this before but anything playing with ligaments is scary for a sprinter or hurdler. I know a therapist or two I will ask them about it.
