I am now at the one month mark after a knee replacement (may need to replace the other in five years or so) and evidently my recovery is coming along very well so far. I managed to find a sports medicine doctor to recommend a sports trained surgeon. The surgeon is still pretty conservative in terms of what he will recommend as far as a return to athletics, but the sports medicine doctor, based on the reported experiences of "no compliant" patients who return to athletic activity including some high impact sports, was lamenting the lack of a national database to track masters athletes with joint replacements since so little is known about the outlook for very active patients. Maybe this community is the best I can find to learn what's possible, at this point. For a 60-ish, healthy person, of average weight, what can I hope for in terms of participating in ANY of the decathlon events ... to keep some/all of my masters decathlon dream alive?
