I'm a hammer thrower and have had problems with the TFL and other hip flexors on and off for a few years. If I don't stretch them regularly I run into problems. I'm fortunate to know a chiropractor that was a top hammer thrower himself. When I went to see him the first time with right hip pain he found that my hip flexors and quads were extremely tight. He showed me some stretches that were very helpful and the pain/problem went away in a couple weeks even while sill training. I learned a TFL stretch from the website exrx.net.
