Frenchman claims M55 indoor world record in 1500: 4:21.94

Pierre Faucheur

Pierre Faucheur of France has five kids — ages 3 to 28. Now he’s added a world record, too. According to this site and others, with official stature, we learn that Pierre pipped the M55 world indoor record in the 1500 on Dec. 10. In Metz, France, he clocked a wonderful 4:21.94, beating the listed WR of 4:24.39 by Britain’s Alistair Dunlop in 2009. The indoor American record for M55 is 4:26.7 by Nolan Shaheed at Boston in 2007. Also for the record, Pierre’s children are as follows: boy 28, boy 26, girl 11, boy 7, boy 3 years. He writes: “Not the time to be bored in this life.” Of course, I shot him some questions. (And here he is winning M50 world title at 2008 indoor worlds in France.)

Masterstrack.com: Where do you live?

Pierre Faucheur: I live near Lyon in a little town of 15,000 inhabitants 35 kms east of Lyon, 100 kms from Alps beautiful mountains

What do you do for a living?

I am project manager in software applications (accounting, production control) for Public Works Directorate Ministry.

What is your date of birth?

01 December 1955

What are your all-time personal bests?

800 m : 1’54″3 (1981)
1500 m : 3’54″6 (1983)
3000 m : 8’26″7 (1985)
5000 m : 14’52″6 (1987)
10000 m : 31’05″4 (1987)

What were the splits in your 4:21.94?

My times were 1:25 at 500m and 2:54 at 1000m without good help.

What are your recent bests in other distances?

I have world record M50 indoor in 4:09.98 (23/02/2006) and Europa Record M50 outdoor in 4:08.38 (20/05/2007)

2010 was not a good year for me because of injuries, 3000m (9:41) and 5000m (16:38) without a good training in running, 80% training in bicycle (I am Europa Champion duathlon M55 in May 2010)

Did you have help from younger runners or pacers in your world record?

In fact I was strong now, but I had very bad races. I was almost alone for this record. I think that I can run under 4:20, probably 4:18 with other young runners and go on 2:51-2:52 at 1000m.

Do you plan to compete at the 2011 WMA world championships in Sacramento?

Yes, I shall come in Sacramento on 1500m (and 800 or 5000), the visiting of USA will be very interesting too.

What other goals do you have this coming year?

Europa Championships indoor in Gand (Belgium) in March,  French record 1500 outdoor (4:22.7)  and I hope : NO INJURY !!!

Pierre also details some workouts:

In training :
-> only 3 times running and 30 kms every week, but fast (quick running 45′, VMA 15×300, strong and short hills)
-> 1 swimming (1000-1500m) and/or 1 cycling (50 kms) every week
-> 1 gymnastic (1 hour core muscle strengthening exercises) and 1 musculation (1 hour exercises with weights) every week

Pierre wins M50 world title in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

The track does not appear to an inside rail. I could be wrong, but the USATF requires it for all US records. Does anyone know about the WMA rules concerning rails. I don’t believe cones count.

    Mike

  2. Nolan Shaheed - December 16, 2010

The track has cones on both curves.

Great job! That is about a 4:40 mile
Indoor mile WR 55-59 4:42.89 seems in jeopardy.

The Men’s 55+ 4:12.5 outdoor record is a tough one though.

The video is of the 2008 worlds. The record in question is from a race in 2010 in Metz, France. Or am I missing something?

I posted the video just to show Pierre at work. If I get video of his WR at Metz, I’ll post that, too!

Hey Mike, How about just appreciating the effort. That was a great race. Could you record geeks just cool it for a minute to enjoy life?

Great job, Pierre. Distance runners should look like human spaghetti. He reminds me of….me. In addition, I liked the cat in the bandana/bandanna. He reminded me of ….me(and Forde).(^_^). A word of “wisdom” to the younger set, “Life isn’t about the race, it’s about the run.” Never stop. Smartty
