Helen Yarber dies at 87; thrower at Senior Games in Texas

Helen Yarber

W70 jumper Shelly Whitlock passes along this sad news: the death of Helen Yarber of Dallas, a basketball player and swimmer who recently dabbled in the throws. “On Saturday, 4/17/2010, we had swimming and (Helen) had a heart attack during the first race, 200 free. Helen was 87 and very active. She had had a small stroke in the past, but she loved to participate. Couldn’t understand why everyone didn’t want to play basketball at 80+. I taught two of my 80+ BB players (Helen 87 and Betty Goldsmith 87) to do shot/discus/javelin for the 1st time in the Wichita Falls Senior Games, Sept. 2009. They were so excited and just loved it. . . . We had the memorial service (Friday) for Helen Yarber.â€
