Club hosted Portland Masters Track Classic.

A slew of weight records were set over the weekend. On the West Coast, M85 Harvey Lewellen of Springfield, Oregon, threw the 12-pound weight 12.24 meters (40-2) to nip the listed American record of 12.21 (40-0) by Karlis Ezerins at 2012 Lisle nationals. And Harvey added the AR in the 25-pound superweight, going 7.42 (24-4 1/4) to crush the listed record of 6.71 (22-0) by Karlis. Both were at the Portland Masters Track Classic in Gresham, Oregon, with complete results here. On the East Coast (in Chelmsford, Massachusetts), the USATF East Regional Ultraweight Pentathlon Championships saw at least six ARs. I haven’t seen the official results yet, but Bob Cedrone detailed the marks on Facebook.

Here’s what Bob posted June 21:

Feeling very privileged to have witnessed a total of 6 existing American Records broken today at the 2014 USATF East Regional Ultraweight Pentathlon Championships at Chelmsford, MA.

Stacey Connor W35-39 started off the fireworks with an 8.25m Superweight Throw, then followed that up with an 8.42m effort. That stood for a total of about 5 minutes until fellow W35-39 competitor Marilyn Coleman put her name into the record books with an 8.82m effort.

Both women then went on to crush the current W35-39 Utraweight Pentathlon American Record of 2769 points formerly held by Jennifer Stephens. Stacey totaled 3924 points, but she was surpassed by Marilyn with her new pending American record total of 4222 points!

Not to be outdone, M45-49 Patrick Toland hit a PR in his first event and never looked back. Personal best performances in 4 of the 5 Ultraweight Pentathlon events resulted in Pat taking down the current American Record of Dave Bickel.

The old record was 3980 points set in August of 2012. Pat totaled a whopping 4276 points, eclipsing Dave’s record by a total of 296 points! Pat’s new pending American Record included a 5.18m 98# Wt toss, a 2.47 200# Ultraweight throw, and a huge 1.49m 300# Ultraweight throw. He was “en fuego”!
