mastersathletics.info posting dozens of videos from Sydney

Geoff Bramley, my Down Under doppelgänger, has posted 40 videos shot from the stands at the World Masters Games. Click here for a growing list. Many heats of the 100 and 800, plus finals, are up, including some showing folks running in the rain and Michael Waller’s M50 victory. Geoff’s site also introduces a new book on masters sports and training by a 54-year-old associate professor at Central Queensland University named Peter Reaburn. His book is called “The Masters Athlete,” drawing on his own experiences as a swimmer, runner and tri guy. He writes about Chapter 1: “Ever wondered why you age? Or why exercise not only adds life to your
years and years to your life? This chapter looks at the ‘big picture’
of aging but presents in detail the 10 secrets science has unlocked to
aging successfully.” But if they’re secrets, why tell them?  In any case, Geoff’s site isn’t keeping any secrets. He’s also competing at WMG. He did the M50 pentathlon. Great job, GM!  Keep ’em coming!

Mastersathletics.net adds to its legend: 2007 rankings up

Martin Gasselsberger of Switzerland, the founder and webmeister of mastersathletics.net has updated his world masters rankings in time for Orono nationals and Riccione worlds. Among its many revelations: Jeff Hartwig and Pat Manson aren’t the only stud M35 vaulters around. In fact, the No. 2 M35 in the world is Bulgaria’s Ilian Efremov, who jumped 5.70 (18-8 1/2) indoors in February at age 36. Another addition to the site: all-time 100-meter dash lists by age group. If World Masters Athletics doesn’t start working with Martin, it’s insane.

    Ops! Ken!
Perhaps there can be a reason, why wma doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t works together with Martin.
The reason is not that Austria isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t Sweden ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú ops ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Switzerland (it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a joke: Martin is not from Switzerland, he is from Austria, ahem: not Australia).
But maybe he is also from Australia, I mean: downunder / up and down? Because he put?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s together the results of indoor and outdoor ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú not in the shot put ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú for example in the sprints! Good examples are the 200 m and the 400 m. I never see that in the lists of athletics statisticians ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú but I am a neophyte.
So, before wma is working together with Martin, I think that we must talk with Martin or write to him, or I must talk with my eye specialist (oculist?). What do you think?
    Greatings from Switzerland (not Sweden)

Mastersathletics.net posts complete 2006 world list!

Now we’re cooking with GAS! For the first time since 2002, a world masters seasonal rankings for all events is online. Dave Clingan of Oregon was the last to pull off this incredible feat. His worthy successor is Martin Gasselsberger of Austria. Check ‘out Martin’s 2006 masters list at mastersathletics.net. These rankings are eye-opening. For the first time, someone has combed the IAAF Top Lists for eligible masters — anyone 35 and over. He lists hundreds of W35 and M35 runners, jumpers and especially throwers (removing a criticism of his original site). Although the Holy Grail is a constantly updated list right smack in the middle of the competition season, we’re thrilled to see at least an after-the-fact compilation. It’s a treasure trove worthy of WMA financial support! Way to go, Martin!

Except of course, the game is only as good as the players contributing, and these published results are not completely reliable or up to date. The M50 100 results include a guy who is an M45, but was shown for much of 2006 wrongly on the data at http://www.athleticsdata.com in the UK as an M50 (he was born in 1958). The error has been corrected on the UK site for some time, but it’s probably one of dozens of small errors that take ages to filter up to those who set themselves the job of producing the big picture. I pick this example, because it sits just above my own ranking, of course, so irritates!! If only it was easy!

Who is the guy who broke the OUTDOOR 800 Masters record?
    1:49.96
    Felipe Castaner Molinero

    Soria
    13.07.2006
and does anyone know where to find 1995 indoor National results?

I have conducted a thorough search about that result and I have found absolutely no evidence. The best proof against is that he doesn’t appear in the Spanish Official Masters Ranking, compiled by the Spanish National Athletic Federation, directly from the automatic printouts generated by the videofinish devices or the the hand-written records taken by the judges in the the field events. http://www.rfea.es/veteranos/ranking/2006al_vetpruehom.pdf
