Seto’s mastersrankings.com quietly moves to athleticsrankings.net

Here's what John's site looked like Sunday.

Here’s what John’s site looked like Sunday.

John Seto’s work-in-progress website remodel continues. But an interesting development is the name of the site. He registered athleticsrankings.net to house the databases created for mastersrankings.com. He also says he’s moved to a new server (godaddy.com). “This should perform faster and have less, if any, interruptions than the previous host,” he writes. So now you can access the U.S. and world lists via either name. The good stuff (season lists, events and age groups, men and women) are found in dropdown menus on the lefthand side. Site is less cluttered. On Oct. 2, John posted this note on homepage:”The site improvements are progressing well and you should be able to submit your results again by the end of my day on October 5th. Thank you to those who have provided feedback and suggestions. Some have already been incorporated. Obviously, the site appearance has been changed. There are some subtle things that are being done dynamically but it will not impact using the site.”

John’s note continued:

The navigation to the lists works exactly like it always has and more. Each athlete name, meet dates, event name, age group and country initials & flag will take you to the correspoding pages. The pull-down menus that were scattered around the page are now consolidated on left and now work together. Each active pulldown (except the year and venue which will be prominently displayed on appropriate pages) will be identified by a colored background. The screen will display the M65 Hammer Throw when you select M45 from the age group pulldown and Hammer Throw from the event pull down.

Jumping to the German M45 Hammer Throw list is easy like it was before by clicking on the German flag or selecting Germany from the Select Country pulldown but now you can jump to the W65 Hammer Throw by selecting W65 from the Age Group pull down or M45 Decathlon by selecting Decathlon from events. Navigation is faster now! Please let me know if a combination of pull down selections does not work properly.

Other Status Updates:

Submission form with less pages and easier entries will be ready by the end of day on October 5th;

Displaying athletes with multiple citizenships in each countries’ list will be ready by the end of day on October 5th. Any athlete who wants to be listed like this should send me your information: countries where you are a citizen, effective citizenship dates for each and which country you would like to be your “primary”. The “primary” country will be displayed on each of the main applicable lists;

The seasons grouping will evolve to venues: Indoor, Outdoor and Road (This does not mean I will be maintaining road race rankings. Some of the “trial events” are the Half and Full Marathons, 10k and 20k racewalk plus some people still insist on submitting 5 and 10k road races so I hope that this different category will mean less correcting work for me!);

Database changes will be done by October 5th. Many corrections, but not all, will be done by then as well;

All of the pages that were available before the shutdown will be operational today. A couple of pages will get improvements over the next couple of days. The page where errors are reported, suggestions, comments and questions are submitted was consolidated to one link when I did the last revision. Anyone using this page can elect to display their post to the public. A page to view the submissions and my responses will be available by the end of day on October 5th. People who have elected to keep their post private can search for their post to see the response;

The site and database was moved to a new server. This should perform faster and have less, if any, interruptions than the previous host.

    “The screen will display the M65 Hammer Throw when you select M45 from the age group pulldown and Hammer Throw from the event pull down.”

    Obviously, the above sentence contains a typo/misprint which should be corrected soon. I believe the sentence should read…”The screen will display the M65 Hammer Throw when you select M65 from the age group pull down and Hammer Throw from the event pull down.”

    Otherwise, the screen shot depicts a cleaner and more intuitive website look which should translate to more users and more results submissions. It is definitely easier on the eyes, too. Good job on the improvements, John.

    Thanks for all the hard work John. I will be recommending this site as often as possible.

    Seto email blast says, in part:
      Some of you have noticed the site is now athleticsrankings.net.  This is the temporary site I am testing.  The US site will return to mastersrankings.com and the world site will be permanently available at athleticsrankings.com when I decide on its permanent home.
